The exhibition Contemporary art in Oaxaca. Vanguard, myth and tradition provides an overview of the various manifestations of contemporary art in Oaxaca. This art is characterised by its variety of languages and styles, while we can find many points in common.
In this talk we will discuss the role of Rufino Tamayo and in particular the artists who preceded him, following the path of contemporaneity, or rather of the different contemporary currents, without losing sight of their past.
The eponymous catalogue reflects and broadens the vision of contemporary art in this region, taking a deeper dive into each of the themes that characterise the exhibition. We have used these themes to shed light on visitors’ understanding of Oaxacan art, which is as complex, diverse and rich as the society that saw it emerge. The presentation is in Spanish.
Talks will be only in spanish.
