His work contains continual references to traditional painting and avant-garde art alike, appropriating both languages and directly referring to them. In his works, he represents the reality of artistic and cultural miscegenation that takes place in Latin American countries.<\/p>\n<p>The triptych <em>La familia informal<\/em> is part of the series <em>Per\u00fa\/Espa\u00f1a. Memorias al desnudo<\/em> (\u201cPeru\/Spain, Memories Exposed\u201d), created in 1992 for the exhibition held during the same year at the former Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid. For Braun-Vega, the entire American continent, both north and south, is today the reflection of all the blending that has taken place, resulting in the society we have today.<\/p>\n<p>This work freely combines elements from a variety of periods and cultures with different artistic techniques and languages, all within the same piece.
